I usually say Elizabeth like: EH-liZ- uh- beth. And Josefina's name...well..I don't have a definate there. It dosen't bother me when people say "J" for her name, but in my mind, I say "H" when I read it, but usually when I say it I say "J".

Bitsy is the only nickname for Elizabeth that I like. In fact, Elizabeth was my first choice to name my DD. Then, while I was pregnant, I met an Elizabeth that ruined the name for me! You know how that is?

When DD was six, I became friends with a wonderful woman named Elizabeth, who goes by Elizabeth. If I would have named DD Elizabeth, I would not have nicknamed her.

But...calling the doll Bitsy is tempting, I confess....

I kinda of like Bitsy myself, but would not call her that since Elizabeth in the books didn't like it either.

I used to work with a girl named Elisabeth, although she went by the nickname of Liz all the time. When she married she named her first born girl Elisa which I thought was very pretty.

I've also always liked the name Eliza with the long "i" sound. Eliza Doolittle!

LOL Taffy. Someone called my five year old Elisabeth "Lizard Breath" and she almost decked him.

She goes by Beth or Libby and sometimes I resort to her baby nick name of weebit.

Elizabeth is just an all around beautiful name. My favorite girls name is Abigail and I love the nickname Abbey as well. Fortunately its my boyfriends favorite girls name too [img]wink.gif[/img] Now if only we could agree on boys names; thanks god thats not an issue for about another 8 years. [img]tongue.gif[/img] But if I end up with two daughters (which Im not sure I would want, Id much rather have a house full of rowdy boys as opposed to prissy girls) I will definitely name the other Elizabeth. Eliza (long i sound) is also a really pretty name. Very British sounding.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sorry to nitpick but in Italian her name is Guisseppina (SP?) learned that yesterday from my parents Italian friends who are visiting and got an introduction to American Girls [img]wink.gif[/img] My dad's friend's name is Guisseppe and he got a kick out of the fact that Josefina had the same name as him.

QNPoohBear, thats funny. An old friend of mine (we had a bit of a falling out) came from a very Italian family. Her father and his three sisters did not come to the US until they were 12-16 back in the 60s. So they all had Italian names. One of her cousins was named Guisseppe, which is Italian for Joseph.

Ironically, one of her aunts was named Josephine and it was pronounced with the J sound. That is the French version of the name. I prefer that pronounciation the best. I dont like it with the Spanish H sound or the heavy J in English. The French way of saying sounds so pretty, IMHO anyway. For those who dont know, the French way would be pronounced like this: zho-zay-FEEN Its kinda hard to write out phonetically. [img]confused.gif[/img]

My real name is Katina. It's pronounced just like Katrina but without the "r". My mom has been calling me Katie ever since I was a baby because she didn't want people to start calling me Tina. So I'm really more used to Katie than Katina. I only use Katina when I'm doing important stuff like filling out forms, paying bills, drivers licensce, etc.

My mailing address lablels say Katina. My mom named me this because it's a combination of Kathlyn(my mom's mom's name) and Christina(a name my mom really liked but couldn't use because I'm Jewish and you can't use names with the word Christ for Jewish people).

I named my AGOT 19 doll Allison because I plan to name my real daughter that if I ever have one. My father's name was Allan and it's customary in the Jewish religion to name children after deceased family members.

As for the dolls, I'm just an impatient typist. I use Lissie because her family and friends all call her that in the book. But Elizabeth doesn't like to be called anything but that so that is what I use. I pronounce everything pretty much phonetically, so I call Josefina with the J. Just like I call roof with the "oo" sound. I think part of it is where I live and what kind of pronounciation my family and friends use for things.

I call Samantha Sam because she is called that in the book. Addy's real name is Aduke(or Adulke) and we know that Kit's name is Margaret Mildred. I agree that I wouldn't want people calling ME Margaret Mildred! [img]rolleyes.gif[/img]

I have a friend Elizabeth that I call Liz and Lizzie so I'll probably use one of those nicknames for the Elizabeth doll.
